From 22nd September 2010 on it’s time again to pack up the kids and enjoy their laughter and awe when Salzburg’s traditional folklore festival, the Rupertikirtag 2010, opens its side stalls, historic artisan displays and fairground attractions to the public.
Prove your skills at the hoopla, get that giant stuffed animal for your sweetheart or try your luck plucking some rubber ducks out of the raffle pool to win charming prizes.
And after revving up your bumper car, why not enjoying the view over the whole fairground and it’s baroque Salzburg backdrop from your seat of the historic ferris wheel. We as well highly recommend venturing into the haunted house – if you dare!
After so much excitement, stroll along the numerous side stalls, listening to the charming stories of long foregone days of tinkers, artisans and other travelling folk.
Rupertikirtag now and then
The Rupertikirtag folkore festival received its name of Salzburg’s patron saint Rupert and is celebrated every September on the squares around the Salzburg Dome. It is one of the most popular folklore festivals in Salzburg.
No wonder, as with its unique mixture of artisan and farmer’s market, fairground attractions and traditional Salzburgian institutions like “Hanswurst” and “Pawlatschentheater”, Rupertikirtag never fails to fascinate the young and attract people of all ages.
In the evening, there are enough beer tents around for celebrating the good times and singing along with classic folklore “schlager” hits.
If you prefer it a bit more quiet, don’t miss a visit at the farmer’s market on Mozartplatz, enjoying some delicious artisan food and craft work.
A highlight in every sense is the fireworks dedicated to St. Rupert, starting on Sunday, 26th September at 8.30 pm.
